About Our District

The Rosholt School District is located in Central Wisconsin and serves a student population of approximately 500 PreK-12 students in a single facility in the village of Rosholt. The area enjoys close proximity to Wausau and Stevens Point which allows residents and students to take advantage of cultural and educational opportunities while still enjoying the rural small town atmosphere.

The system is composed of three schools within the larger Pre-K-12 facility:

Rosholt Elementary - PreK-6
Rosholt Middle - 7-8
Rosholt High - 9-12

Building projects have included: a $5 million High School Addition that added an auditorium, gymnasium, band room complex, lobby/commons, and 10 new classrooms; a $2 million Middle School Addition; a $600,000 High School Library Addition; the relocation of the bus garage; and the renovation of several other areas. We are very proud of the quality of our facilities and the ongoing care and upgrades to the building that the District has provided.

The Rosholt Schools provide a comprehensive Pre-K-12 curriculum in art, computer literacy, environmental education, guidance and counseling, health, language arts, mathematics, technology literacy, music, physical education, science, and social studies. In addition, technology education, agriculture, family and consumer education, business education, and foreign languages are offered in grades 7-12. Students also have opportunities to participate in a wide range of high school courses offered through distance education classes on ERVING, Youth Options, and Advanced Placement Classes.

Curriculum & Instruction Highlights

  • Unique opportunities for early childhood education are provided through a full-day/every other day program for four-year olds and full-day/everyday kindergarten for five-year olds.

  • On-site programs are available to children, ages 3-21, with special education needs in cooperation with the Marathon County Special Education Department.

  • A strong emphasis on reading is the foundation of the educational philosophy of the district. Students participate in many activities to motivate reading and Title I staff are available to assist students.

  • A strong environmental educational program uses the facilities of the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, Jordan Park Nature Center, and district-owned forest areas. Most recently the District expanded outdoor educational experiences through the development of the Benn Nature Conservancy, which is adjacent to the school facility.

  • The art department which serves grades K-12 provides opportunities for artwork to be exhibited throughout the state. Students annually present demonstrations in celebration of Youth Art Month.

  • The vocal and instrumental music departments, each staffed by specialists, regularly win honors at district and state music festivals. Local concerts and musicals, at the elementary and secondary levels, attest to the excellence of the program.

  • The drama program provides quality productions that have entertained parents and community members in our newly constructed 500 seat auditorium. Students are encouraged and supported in the development of their dramatic talents. Performances have included musicals, one-act plays, three-act plays, and Madrigal Dinners.

  • A very progressive and state-wide recognized small school library program serves as both computer center and diversified media learning center in PreK-8 and 9-12 locations. Online information retrieval, including the Internet and inter-library loan services provide students access to resources not available locally.

  • A well organized physical education program is offered. Aimed at developing a lifestyle which will include physical fitness, graduates understand the effects of exercise on the human body, enjoy regular exercise and maintain a desirable level of fitness through life-long sports and physical activities they learn about in class.

  • Classes are designed to meet the needs of students of varying abilities. Special programming is provided for gifted & talented students as well as students who are at-risk and need alternative school settings.

  • The guidance and counseling program coordinates a skills for living curriculum to assist students with developmental guidance, career planning and vocational and academic and vocational counseling.

  • Community resources provide opportunities for speakers in classrooms, field trips and student work experiences.

  • Rosholt schools continually strive to be in compliance with the state mandated standards of educational excellence. The district has been cited for exemplary performance in the areas of staff development, personnel evaluation and library/media services.

  • On the state testing, Rosholt students have continually achieved at levels higher than the state average. The teaching staff annually analyzes test results to identify students in need of additional help and curricular areas that need to be strengthened.

  • The fully certified teaching staff has a wealth of experience and expertise in their area of specialty. Teaching assistants support the professional staff to allow the students a better opportunity at individualization in instruction.

  • Because the school is small, discipline problems are minimized, there is continuity in learning from four-years-of-age through high school, and there is a strong sense of friendliness through positive reinforcement of accomplishments. Concern about the growth of each individual student is shown through parent involvement at area events, activities, conferences and participation in the Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO), Booster Club, Rosholt Area Friends of the Arts (RAFA) and the Rosholt Education Fund.
